How to Participate in the MLK Holiday Virtual Teach-In and Call to Action

Hello!

Thank you so much for signing up to participate in tomorrow's Virtual Teach-In and Call to Action in honor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.

This is a special year, as it marks the 40th Anniversary of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Observance, traditionally hosted in-person in Portland by the NAACP in Maine. While we can't gather in person this year, the day will be jam packed with opportunities to learn, connect, and take action in support of Black leadership and Black liberation.

How to participate:

  • Now that you've registered for this event, you have access to any of the 20+ scheduled sessions hosted by organizations across the state! You can find them all listed here along with Zoom log-in information. (*Note: a few sessions are designated for BIPOC folks only and are clearly labeled as such)

  • You will have received a welcome email with a video of our opening ceremony. We hope you will take a few moments and watch as you prepare for your day of learning and action.

  • You'll also receive periodic emails throughout the day with reminders about upcoming sessions, 15 minutes beforehand, with corresponding zoom information for each.

  • You may notice that some sessions require a second registration process. We will try and make instructions for joining a session as clear as possible in our emails tomorrow and on the event webpage.

  • At 6:00 pm, there will be a closing ceremony where we'll look to the future, be called to action, and enjoy music from artists Kafari, JanaeSound, and Carolyn Brady.

Looking forward to tomorrow!

Sincerely,

The NAACP in Maine and the MLK Holiday Steering Committee
