Essential Backcountry Navigation Skills

Join us Friday, April 12th for an Essential Backcountry Navigation Skills class with licensed wilderness guide, Chris Varian. The class will cover selecting, reading, and navigating with topographic maps, understanding how map information relates back to physical terrain, using a compass to plot and follow a route, and basic route planning and backcountry movement.

Featuring several of Southport’s finest private gardens, this self-guided walking tour starts in the heart of the Village at Pequot Library and includes Aspetuck Land Trust’s native Wildflower Preserve. Pick up your tour program, browse local vendors on the Great Lawn, then wind your way through a floral adventure in an idyllic seaside New England neighborhood.

Join us March 16th for a “Little Legs & Wildlife” kids walk. Using all of our senses let’s explore wildlife. This youth focused program is led by Ranger Jim. He will be leading families through our Violet trail (Trout Brook Valley) from 10:00 to about noon, highlighting the beautiful local ecology around us and all the wonders nature hides in plain sight. Meet at the Bradley Road entrance to Trout Brook Valley Preserve and we will be using all of our senses to look for signs of wildlife.

Urban Art and Nature Walk in Downtown Bridgeport

You’re invited to join us for a special evening of art and nature! Grab a bite to eat at the Housatonic Museum of Art’s reception and enjoy a guided tour of Hidden Gems from the Housatonic Museum of Art from 5pm - 6pm. Then we’ll head out on a walking expedition throughout downtown Bridgeport, where the Aspetuck Land Trust will point out native and invasive species and the Colorful Bridgeport team will highlight the many murals and public art installations throughout the neighborhood. You’ll see the natural world through new eyes while experiencing the beautiful murals in the urban landscape. This walking tour will last from 6pm - 7pm, where we’ll wrap up our tour and head to the Bridgeport Art Trail weekend kick-off party at Read’s Artspace.
