StitchCast Studio

podcast art episode I

So you want to be in our StitchCast?

StitchCast Studio brings together youth and professional artists in St. Louis to develop and produce a series of podcast episodes.

Youth, ages 16-25, lead meaningful dialogues that inspire original content in mentor-led workshops based on participants’ lived experiences in economically disadvantaged, high crime areas. Podcasts focus on the streets, gun violence, and finding solutions to issues that are coming at our youth hard. The project goal is to gain greater understanding of the needs and desires of the youth served and to give them an amplified voice to create needed changes in society, to support youth in a successful transition to adulthood, and to reduce youth crime in St. Louis. Youth artists use dialogue, original poetry, and music to highlight their personal experiences with gun violence, life transitions, and mental health, promoting mutual respect for diverse ideas, greater understanding, and a more peaceful society.

Story Stitchers are able to reach out to their communities through StitchCast —

I definitely have been able to reach out through my community and do some good and spread the word about this amazing organization.

I reached out to my community by teaching others about how youth can shape each other through school, music, etc.

I have been able to share my experiences with StitchCast and inform people on how much fun I’ve had in the time I spent with Story Stitchers.

I’ve been able to be a part of StitchCast Studio and provide information to my peers.

I have been able to reach out by putting out what’s new with StitchCast on my social media and giving flyers out.

Youth, ages 16-24 years old, discuss current topics in live podcast recordings on stage. Live art interludes are incorporated into the presentations. Learn about the community through the words of young leaders.

I’ve learned more and have learned how to point out the issues to bring light to them and get people into fixing the issues.

I’ve been referring people left and right to come check it out and decide for themselves whether it’s something they’d find interest in.

I’ve been able to network with new music artists who are interested in collaborations with me, regarding my beats.

It’s helped me become more open minded about my community & what I can do to change it.

In conjunction with The WHY of MY City, Story Stitchers artists are creating StitchCast Studio Special Edition podcast recordings focused on Black historic sites in Saint Louis, Missouri.
