Young artists and business enthusiasts 16-25 years old living in the Saint Louis, Missouri region learn as they help to build the nonprofit. Guest artists, arts workshops, hip hop, beat making, film and media studies, read aloud, resume writing, the art of business, open studio, photography, story collecting, storytelling, videography, music, games, mentors, and more!
Story Stitchers welcome 16-25-year-old youth living in the Saint Louis region to programs centered around creative youth development in music, media and performing arts, and visual art including photography and videography. Youth who want to take full advantage of the programs offered join Story Stitchers Youth Council. The Council creates leadership opportunities for engaged youth that incorporate safe spaces to gather, culturally relevant mentors, opportunities to strengthen artistic, technical and soft job skills, powerful platforms from which to be heard, community partners, ownership over the program, a sense of extended family, stability and trust, friendships and opportunities to earn stipends for community service.

Unless Story Stitchers are out in the community, The Center is open for youth with various activities including rehearsals, beat making, music production, project planning, internships, and more:

Stitchers Youth Council has performed over 400 times since 2014 throughout St. Louis in cultural venues, parks and at block parties.
Members are 16-25 years old social justice artists who work with adult mentors to generate high quality art that is aimed at moving the region to a healthier and happier future for all.
Working on numerous awards including the prestigious Lewis Prize For Music, geared at driving them towards a larger youth arts and technology center, a Youthbridge Community Foundation grant to create art to address stigmas around mental health amongst their peers, and the City of St. Louis Youth at Risk Crime Prevention grant of 2023-2024, they are certain to have an important impact.

StitchCast Studio

In StitchCast Studio, youth new to podcasting enter a 4-week, 8-hour program to learn about types and practices involved in podcasting and create their first podcast together in Zoom. Two session are run each month. Earn a $100 stipend for successful completion of the program.
After completing the new podcaster program, youth may continue to earn stipends and explore the medium as Alumni podcasters, with greater range of opportunities to explore pressing topics in a faster timeline.
Youth, ages 16-25, lead meaningful dialogues that inspire original content in mentor-led workshops based on participants’ lived experiences in economically disadvantaged, high crime areas. Podcasts focus on the streets, gun violence, and finding solutions to issues that are coming at our youth hard. The project goal is to gain greater understanding of the needs and desires of the youth served and to give them an amplified voice to create needed changes in society, to support youth in a successful transition to adulthood, and to reduce youth crime in St. Louis. Youth artists use dialogue, original poetry, and music to highlight their personal experiences with gun violence, life transitions, and mental health, promoting mutual respect for diverse ideas, greater understanding, and a more peaceful society.
