Banking:

Individuals without bank accounts:

As you may have heard by now, the federal government is providing consumers with stimulus checks. If a consumer does not have a bank or credit union account, their stimulus check may be delayed for several weeks or months in the mail.

There is some good news. With the help of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the United Way of Florida has a list of banks that will open accounts, on-line. From there, consumers can provide their account information to the IRS for direct deposit which will provide their stimulus check faster than the mail. Here are the steps:
1.    Open a bank account online. FDIC’s BankFind tool allows you to locate FDIC-insured banking institutions in your area. The list of banks in offering the opportunity to open an account online is located here. Instructions on how to open an account are available here.
2.    Once an account is opened, the bank will provide a routing number and an account number.  Consumers can submit that information through the IRS portal to receive their economic impact payment if they are eligible.  More information is available on the IRS’s website, including these Frequently Asked Questions.

Finally, here’s the FDIC’s new webpage launched last week dedicated to helping consumers get the information they need to receive your stimulus check electronically.
