Clean water access is crucial to beat the spread of COVID-19. While we all hope we can get back outside and in the game soon, we are committed to spending our time in lock-down raising funds to fight against the COVID-19 virus by providing clean water to high need communities. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.

Funds raised will support clean water access in rural communities in Tanzania. We are working in partnership with  Global Water Challenge  and Waterboys, a clean water program founded by NFL champion Chris Long.

Global Water Challenge's mission is to accelerate universal access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene around the world. Together, Global Water Challenge and the Waterboys are teaming up to provide clean water access in rural Tanzania and support the fight against COVID-19.

Need:

Only 35% of rural Tanzanian villages have clean water. One third of the country is arid to semi-arid making it difficult to access to this precious resource. This lack of access increases the spread of disease and perpetuates poverty. The Tanzanian villages (Matinje, Mwalala and Mwandihimiji) that we are raising funds for are located in remote rural environments and are some of the most challenging to reach due to significant distances between villages and low groundwater availability. In fact, the Government of Tanzania labeled these villages in critical-need based on their low-level of water access. Now with the rainy season ending, the situation is more dire as sources dry-up and the need for water is urgent.

Response:
In response, a consortium of partners led by Worldserve  and in collaboration with the Waterboys and Chris Long (former NFL-player and Super Bowl Champion) and Global Water Challenge, are installing 15 solar-powered clean water systems to deliver sustainable safe water for over 33,000 Tanzanians. This clean water will unleash the potential of these communities, improving health, schools, handwashing and everyday life. The villages where we will work include Matinje, Mwalala and Mwandihimiji. They are some of the most high need villages in Tanzania based on their low-level of water access.

Already, this project has successfully completed seven solar-powered water systems and is working to complete the remaining eight systems by August 2020. Our goal is to help them fill the gap to reach the remainder of the villages with sustainable water systems.  The Worldserve team is training water operators to manage the water systems for the long term. The communities and local governments are taking ownership for sustainably maintaining their systems. The ripple effects from improved water access will help benefit students, schools and clinics in these communities.

Opportunity:
Your crucial support would give the final push to help achieve water access for over 33,000 people in rural Tanzania!
