Dear Friend,

If you are like me, you are feeling overwhelmed.

We are in uncharted territory. Our lives are being disrupted in ways many of us have never experienced and, perhaps, never even imagined. But, the truth is that this crisis brings into sharp focus the central question that is at the heart of our work at Maine Initiatives: How do we create justice?

You and I, together, hold the answer.

You know that getting resources into the hands of grassroots and community-based organizations is essential in times of crisis. Trusting their leadership and wisdom is how we ensure that the needs of all Mainers are being met in this crisis.

That's why we've launched the COVID-19 Community Care Fund.

Through the COVID-19 Community Care Fund, we are raising and pooling funds to make rapid-response grants to the grassroots organizations led by and advocating for those folks who are most at risk in this crisis: indigenous, black and immigrant folks; working class, low income, and poor people; and those that are too often pushed to the margins through incarceration, homelessness, disability, etc. These organizations are our grantee partners. We trust them to lead us in this moment. And they require urgent community support.

100% of funds raised will go to organizations playing leadership roles in organizing and advocating for those who are most directly impacted by this crisis.

Will you choose to make a donation right now? We can be a community that understands and acknowledges that we are all connected; that we can only thrive and flourish when we show deep and abiding care for all.

Join me in giving to the COVID-19 Community Care Fund today. Together, we can do this. Together, we create justice.

In community,

Phil Walsh
