“The Integration of a Near Death Experience”

with PMH Atwater

Sunday, August 2, 2020 | 2:00-5:00 pm

2:00-3:30 - Conversation with PMH Atwater
3:45-5:00 - NDE Support Group

Hosted on Zoom by the Institute for Spirituality and Health

We have a very exciting guest for our August 2nd meeting as we talk to PMH Atwater about "The Integration of an NDE." PMH has written and spoken for decades (43 years and counting) about near death experiences, her own as well as others, and is widely recognized as an experiential expert on the topic. She has written 10 books examining many aspects of near death experiences and has served on the board of IANDS.

In keeping with the new found mission in life that many NDErs experience, PMH's new life path involved researching the stories of thousands of experiencers and writing about them in book form from an investigative mindset, leaving few if any stones unturned. In her studies, she utilizes law enforcement interview techniques, learned from her father, to unearth information and memories that can be locked away in trauma. Her examinations of different scenarios and otherworldly narratives helped encourage others to speak up, share and integrate their personal experience into their lives in ways that help push away shame, doubt, and a dizzying array of challenges that can occur once you have a deep and spiritual experience of being brought back from the edge of life.

Those who have had a near death experience must process and integrate this life changing event into what usually becomes a new and unexpected path, whether or not the experiencer openly reveals the event. It is not uncommon for this to take 7-10 years to fully embrace and become comfortable with a reality shift of this spiritual magnitude. Indeed, Atwater says, "it can be lifelong work."

Join Houston IANDS as we pull from her extensive knowledge of NDEs and learn how to gracefully navigate both the blessings and the obstacles faced when coming back from an NDE. All are welcome, whether you are an experiencer, a family member or friend of an experiencer, a health professional interested in better caring for NDErs, or are simply interested in this fascinating subject.

P. M. H. Atwater, L.H.D. is one of the original researchers in the field of near-death studies, having begun her work in 1978 and completing 10 books on her findings – some of which have now been verified in clinical settings. Her, The Big Book of Near-Death Experiences, was featured in the online version of Newsweek Magazine.  Near-Death Experiences: The Rest of The Story is her most complete and controversial book yet. She has won many awards, appeared on numerous TV shows, and spoken around the world – always inviting people to look past appearances for the truth that underlies what we think we know.

Houston IANDS (International Association for Near-Death Studies) at the Texas Medical Center serves as a safe space to support those who have had a near-death experience as they integrate their experience into their lives. Houston IANDS also serves to inform the public about NDEs and the lessons and messages that experiencers bring back, and to educate the medical community to recognize and appropriately treat people who have had an NDE.
