Sign up for the Bike to Work Day Business Challenge

Business leaders earn recognition each time an employee pledges to ride on Bike to Work Day Wednesday, June 26. Join the Business Challenge and climb a public-facing leaderboard as your staff pledges to swap trips alone in their cars for rides on two wheels. To sign up, fill out the form and promote the program internally when rider registration opens on Monday, April 15. The more employees who sign up, the higher the business will rank on the Bike to Work Day Business Challenge leaderboard.

Area Agency on Aging selected to join Health Equity Learning Cooperative

The Area Agency on Aging is one of 20 organizations nationally selected by the Partnership to Align Social Care to join a Health Equity Learning Cooperative. During the 15-month initiative, the Area Agency on Aging will work to develop contract partnerships among DRCOG and the region's health care and health insurance providers. Through the program, Area Agency on Aging staff will convene a community-clinical team including its employees and staff from Denver Health, and a yet to-be-identified hospital, health system and health insurance provider. The team will design and implement a program to screen and navigate Medicare beneficiaries to community-based services. The program leverages three newly created Medicare reimbursable benefits which pay clinical providers to screen Medicare patients for social needs (such as housing and food) and reimburse DRCOG and clinical staff for labor costs to help patients find community services to meet their needs.

DRCOG outlines crash trends in Active Modes Crash Report

The Denver Regional Council of Governments in December 2023 released the Active Modes Crash Report, an assessment of regional crash and safety trends involving people bicycling and walking from 2015-2021.

The report details crash factors and causes for pedestrian and bicycle-involved crashes from 2015 and 2019 and gives a preliminary overview of crashes during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic for years 2020 and 2021.

From 2015 to 2019, the Active Modes Crash Report finds:

  • Motor vehicle vs. Pedestrian crashes involving speeds of 35 miles per hour or more were more than twice as likely to result in death or severe injury.

  • Two-thirds of people involved in fatal or severe injury pedestrian crashes were people who identified as men.

  • Two out of five fatal or severe-injury pedestrian crashes involved left turns.

Explore the Active Modes Crash Report and learn more information about bicycle and pedestrian planning efforts across the region.
