ACTION ALERT: Kavanaugh is closer to confirmation – WE NEED YOUR VOICE NOW

United States Supreme Court Building

Yesterday was a difficult day for many of us, as we heard Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s painful, honest testimony and then saw members of the Senate Judiciary Committee publicly dismiss and belittle what she had to say. Today, the Judiciary Committee voted to continue the confirmation process for Judge Kavanaugh. This is unacceptable. The Senate is trying to make this decision without listening to us—without listening to women, to disabled people, to survivors of sexual assault. They are turning their backs on the people they were elected to represent, but we can turn them back around. If the Senate does not want to listen to Dr. Ford, we need to make them listen. So make this a message that your Senators can’t ignore:

We believe survivors. Kavanaugh has to go.

Because we believe survivors, because we like using our civil rights, because we need health care, because we believe everyone has the right to control their own body: this is our fight, and we can’t stop now. Call your Senators today, over the weekend, and every day until they listen.

You can use our script while calling:

Script for calling your Senator
My name is  [your full name] . I’m a constituent of  Senator [Name] , and I live in  [your town] . I’m asking  Senator [Name]  to release a public statement saying they intend to vote NO on Kavanaugh. Your constituents include women, people with disabilities, and survivors of sexual assault who do not want to see this controversial and dangerous man on the Supreme Court. It’s the Senator’s job to represent us, and we say NO. Your constituents are watching, and we’re counting on you to do the right thing.

If you have trouble making phone calls or use AAC, our factsheet gives you strategies you can use to call your Senators. If you want more information about Judge Kavanaugh, including a plain language explainer, check out this resource page.

After you’ve called your Senators’ DC offices, keep taking action to #StopKavanaugh:

  • Call and visit your Senators’ state offices, and tell them to release a public statement saying they will vote no on Kavanaugh. In-person meetings keep the pressure on your Senators to do their job and represent you.
  • Email and fax your Senators. You can use the same script you did while calling.

Dr. Ford and other survivors are raising their voices, and we need to be speaking out right alongside them. Our rights and the rights of generations to come hang in the balance. Tell your Senators that they work for us—and we demand they stop Kavanaugh.

We know this is a difficult time for many people in our community. If you are dealing with issues related to sexual assault and need support or referral to services, RAINN operates a chat hotline which may be more accessible than using the phone.
